Rei pushed up his glasses. “The last time you spent the night you ate two pizzas on your own-”
“I paid for them!”
“Yesterday at school, your entire lunch was made up of sweet bread from the cafeteria-
“I paid for those too!”
“And today you ate nothing but yakisoba bread for lunch with two cups of ice cream. If you want to be in top shape for the next swimming tournament, you're going to have to change your diet.”
Nagisa pouted, his cheeks puffing outward. “That's a whole year away!”
“It is never too early to get started. Now, this salad is full of vitamin rich vegetables and has a low-calorie dressing-”
“I don't want to eat it!”
“You must!”
“You'll have to make me!”
“Stop being so childish-”
Ah, the magic word. Sometimes being called a child would set Nagisa off into a rage. Other times, it gave him wicked ideas. Today was a wicked idea day.
“If I'm such a child, you'll have to feed it to me then.”
“...what?”
“I said, feed me Rei-chan! Like I was a little baby!” Nagisa batted his eyelashes as his friend turned pink in the face.
“I- you – what -” Rei sputtered before he closed his eyes and thought of calming mathematical equations. “Very well. But you must swallow what I feed you!”
“Okay~” Nagisa grinned, opening his mouth, waiting to be fed. Rei moved around the table to feed him, careful not to poke the other boy with the fork as he placed the food inside his mouth.
Nagisa chewed the bit of salad he had been given, all joy at having bent Rei to his will leaving when he tasted the salad. It was seriously gross! But he made a promise to swallow what he had been fed. “UGH OH MY GOD REI THAT IS THE MOST DISGUSTING SALAD EVER!” He wailed, trying to wipe his tongue off with his hands after he had swallowed the one bite he had had down.
Rei frowned, “We're not ordering pizza.”
“Can't we just have pickled vegetables and miso soup and fish? That's healthy! And you make it real good all on your own!” Nagisa pleaded.
Rei looked down at the salad and tried a bit. How could it be so bad- “...yes. We'll have that then. Will you help me make it?” How could such a beautiful salad taste so terrible?!
Nagisa nodded his head vigorously, “Of course I'll help!” He was glad Rei didn't like the salad either. They did have a whole year to try to eat better, maybe Rei's salad making skills would improve by then! For now, a typical evening meal would have to suffice. Nagisa was pretty sure he could win a grilled fish eating contest too, but only if it wasn't saba and only if Haruka hadn't entered as well.

Rei leapt off the starting block, executing a perfect entry to the “oohs and ahs” of the audience.
“Beautiful, Rei!”
“Stunning, Rei-kun!”
“Gorgeous!”
His teammates’ calls rang out from the stands as Rei left his competitors in the dust and ended his riveting performance with a “1” next to his name.
Keeping his cool, Rei reached up to adjust his goggles when a hand was reached out to him.
“Speedo gla-No. Rei. That was...the best butterfly stroke I’ve ever seen.”
Rei smiled and took Rin’s outstretched hand.
“Even...” Rei began as he was pulled out of the water. “...better than yours, Rin-san?”
Rin did not reply. In fact, he was no longer standing on the poolside. The pool...the stands...the whole area was empty.
“R-Rin-san?”
“Rei-chan...”
Rei turned, but there was no one in sight.
“Rei-chan...”
“W-Where’s that voice coming from? What’s going on?!”
All of a sudden, Rei was gripped with the urge to look up. And when he did, his bafflement only grew.
The sun was extremely close to the earth and seemed to be getting even closer.
“T-This isn’t scientifically possible!” Rei spluttered, shielding his eyes.
“Just how-”
“Rei-chan,” the sun said.
“...”
“Rei-chan, wake up.”
“What?” Rei opened his eyes to see Nagisa leaning over him with his face only inches away.
“N-Nagisa-kun!” Rei cried, crawling out from under him. “W-What are you doing?!
Rei saw Nagisa throw something off the side of his bed, but being without his glasses at the moment, he did not see what it was.
“I was trying to wake you up,” Nagisa said, bouncing up and down on the mattress. “We’re going to be late-late-late!”
Rei reached for the alarm clock on his headboard and brought it close to his eyes.
“S-So late! I can’t believe I slept through the alarm!”
Rei bustled past Nagisa to start getting ready.
“You must’ve been having a nice dream...” Nagisa stretched out on the mattress. “...to make you sleep so deeply. You didn’t wake up even when I banged on your door.”
Rei paused in the middle of gathering his school clothes and turned back to Nagisa.
“How did you get in?”
“I picked your lock,” Nagisa said nonchalantly. When Rei did not respond, he glanced at him and saw his shocked expression.
“I had no choice. You don’t want to mess up your perfect attendance now, do you?”
Rei sighed and returned to getting his things together.
“Thank you,” he said quietly.
“What was that?”
“Thank you for waking me up, Nagisa-kun.”
The blonde grinned and jumped off Rei’s bed and onto his back.
“No problem! Rei-chan’s sleeping face is cute! If you want, I could be here to wake you up every morning!”
Rei’s eyes widened at the implications of what Nagisa had said (whether or not he knew was up in the air), thankful that the other boy could not see his face and the blush that had risen on it.
“H-Have you seen my glasses?”
“I’ve got ‘em. You just focus on hurrying up!”
“I can’t with you on my back, you know.”
“Sure you can! You’ve just got to quicken your pace.”
“But I can’t see!”
“I’ll be your eyes!”
“...You’re heavy.”
“Carrying me around will make you stronger. And that will improve your swimming!”
“...”
Rei’s struggle to get ready for school and get there while giving Nagisa a piggy-back ride was hard (Nagisa only got off when he had to change his shirt and when they got on the crowded train (although he got back on immediately after)). And Nagisa did not give him back his glasses until they were in their classroom-
“I’m your eyes, Rei-chan,” he reminded when Rei complained.
-so Rei had not had the chance to check his appearance nor did he catch the strange looks people threw his way (which if he had, he would have attributed to Nagisa anyways).
It was only when their teacher stood in front of Rei’s desk with his brow furrowed did the once again-bespectacled boy realize that something was off.
“Ryugazaki, could you please explain to me why you have the school mascot drawn on your face? And the words...“Iwatobi-chan’s butterfly?””
Suddenly, Nagisa leaning over Rei when he woke up...throwing something (a marker, probably) off the side of his bed...withholding his glasses and preventing him from checking his appearance...it all made sense.
For a moment, the classroom was quiet.
“Pfft,” a familiar voice began.
“NAGISA-KUN!”
